Chính quyền liên bang Australia và chính quyền Vùng lãnh thổ Thủ đô Canberra vừa cho biết, đã cấp phép để gần 350 sinh viên quốc tế đến Canberra học tập từ tháng 7 tới. Đây sẽ là nhóm sinh viên quốc tế đầu tiên đến Australia kể từ khi nước này đóng cửa biên giới vào tháng 3 để ngăn ngừa sự lây lan của Covid-19.Trường Đại học Quốc gia Australia và Đại học Canberra vừa trở thành 2 trường học đầu tiên của Australia, được phép đón sinh viên quốc tế tới học vào tháng 7 tới. Các sinh viên được sang Canberra học tập lần này sẽ là những bạn đang học tại trường, là sinh viên sau Đại học, sinh viên nghiên cứu hoặc những bạn đang học năm cuối Đại học.
Mặc dù chưa rõ các sinh viên này đến từ những quốc gia nào và sẽ tập trung tại đâu trước khi bay sang Australia, nhưng truyền thông nước này cho biết, các sinh viên sẽ được chuyên chở trên 1 chuyến bay do các trường Đại học và các sinh viên cùng chi trả.
Chi phí cách ly tại khách sạn và các hỗ trợ liên quan sẽ do nhà trường lo, trong khi chính quyền Canberra sẽ cung cấp các hỗ trợ hậu cần. Sau khi đến Canberra, gần 350 sinh viên sẽ được cách ly tập trung tại khách sạn 14 ngày theo quy định của Australia.
Bộ trưởng Giáo dục Australia Dan Tehan cho biết, có hai điều kiện để các trường có thể tham gia vào chương trình này, thứ nhất là các bang mở cửa biên giới với các bang khác và thứ hai là các cơ sở đào tạo của các trường phải mở cửa để đón sinh viên tới học.
Ông Brian Schmidt, Hiệu trưởng Trường Đại học Quốc gia Australia cho biết, đây chỉ là “bước đi nhỏ” nhằm giúp xác định “cách thức an toàn và phù hợp” để đưa các sinh viên quốc tế quay trở lại Australia học tập.
Ông Paddy Nixon, Hiệu trưởng trường Đại học Canberra khẳng định, việc đưa một nhóm sinh viên quốc tế quay trở lại Canberra sẽ “cho phép các trường và chính quyền Australia kinh nghiệm, để tìm ra quy trình phù hợp cũng như đưa ra các quy định nhằm đảm bảo an toàn” cho các sinh viên khi tới Australia học tập.
